What causes an oily scalp? How can we fix it?

Oily scalp is caused by many factors, the main ones being:

Causes of Oily Scalp
1. Excessive oil production: Sebaceous glands located under the scalp produce oil (sebum), to maintain the moisture of the skin and hair. But in some people, the production of oil may be excessive, causing the scalp and hair to become oily easily.
2.Hormones: Hormones, especially androgen hormones, play a role in stimulating oil production. This may increase during adolescence, pregnancy, or the use of birth control pills.
3. Stress: Stress can trigger the body to produce hormones that affect the functioning of the sebaceous glands. Makes the scalp more oily.
4. hair products: Using shampoos that contain harsh chemicals, using too much conditioner or using hair styling products that contain oil can make your hair and scalp oily.
5. Washing your hair too often: Washing your hair too often can strip your scalp of its natural oils. This causes the body to produce more oil in response.
6. Food: Foods high in fat, spicy and sugary foods, can stimulate the body’s oil production.

How to solve the problem of oily scalp

1. Choose the right shampoo: Use a shampoo formulated for an oily scalp or try using a shampoo that contains natural ingredients. Such as green tea, neem or tea tree oil, which can help reduce oiliness.
2. Reduce the frequency of shampooing: If you wash your hair daily, try reducing the frequency of your shampooing, as frequent shampooing can stimulate your scalp to produce more oil.
3. Do not use conditioner on the scalp: Use conditioner only on the ends of your hair, avoid using it on your scalp as it may make your scalp more oily.
4. Rinse your hair with cold water: Rinsing your hair with cold water after shampooing helps close the pores and reduce oil production.
5. Maintain Healthy Food: Eat healthy foods such as vegetables, fruits and good proteins. Reduce your consumption of foods high in fat and sugar.
6. Avoid stress: Manage stress through getting enough rest or practicing meditation. It can help reduce hormones that stimulate oil production.
7. Use dry shampoo: If you can’t wash your hair often, try using a dry shampoo, which will help absorb oils from your scalp.

Taking care of an oily scalp takes time and some lifestyle changes. You should experiment with different methods until you find the one that works best for you.
