Difference between FUE and DHI hair transplant techniques

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) are popular hair transplant techniques. Each technique has its own methods and advantages and disadvantages, as follows:
1. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)
• Method:
In the FUE technique, a special tool is used to extract follicular units from areas with thick hair (such as the back of the head) without cutting the scalp. The grafts are then transplanted into areas with thinning or receding hair. This method does not leave large scars and the recovery is fast.
• Advantages:
o No long scars like scalp strip cutting (Similar to FUT technique)
o Fast recovery and less pain
o No visible scars
o Suitable for those who want to transplant hair in a small area or an area that needs adjustment
• Disadvantages:
o It may take time to collect hair grafts several times.
o It requires a highly skilled doctor to collect hair grafts to avoid losing hair grafts.
2. DHI (Direct Hair Implantation)
• Method:
Hair transplantation with the DHI technique uses a tool called the Choi Implanter Pen, which can insert hair grafts directly into the desired transplanted area without having to open a wound or puncture with a needle during the transplant. This method helps to make hair transplantation more accurate and natural.
• Advantages:
o No need to open a large wound, hair can be transplanted in one step.
o Precise control of hair graft placement, making the transplanted hair look natural.
o Very fast recovery and less wounds.
o Reduces the chance of losing hair grafts because there is no need to drill many holes.
• Disadvantages:
o Requires high skills and techniques from the doctor or team of doctors performing the hair transplant.
o The price is quite higher than using the FUE technique.
o The hair transplant time may be longer because each graft is more detailed.
Choosing the right technique:
• FUE may be more suitable if you want good results. But don’t want a long recovery time or have a relatively large hair transplant area.
• DHI may be more suitable if you need high precision in the hair transplant location and want the most natural-looking results.

In both cases, you should consult an experienced doctor to choose the right technique for your scalp condition and needs.
